Deep Fried Cookie Dough

In August I attended our town's annual Ribberfest. While I was there I kept seeing a sign for deep fried cookie dough and it sounded rather appealing so I coughed up the five dollars for it and tried it. It was the most amazing thing I have ever had! I have been addicted ever since. So I had to find a recipe and make my own.

This took me about 45 minutes to make but that is because I cook painfully slow. This was a really easy recipe and everything about it can be changed with out a big difference. For the cookie dough I just used the recipe on the back of the Ghirardelli chocolate chip package.

This recipe makes around 3 dozen cookies so you may want to cut it or make the remaining cookie dough into cookies.

Pour a quart of vegetable oil into a pot or pan. (whatever you use to deep fry) Preheat oil to 350 or 300 if you want them to deep fry slower.

Cookie Dough:

1 package of semi-sweet chocolate chips (11 1/2 ounce package)
1 cup of softened butter (or margarine)
3/4 cup of sugar
3/4 cup of brown sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
2 1/4 cup of all purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt

Stir flour, baking soda, and salt. Set this aside.
In a mixing bowl beat butter, sugar, and brown sugar until they are creamy and light in color.
Add eggs, and vanilla in the mixing bowl. Gradually mix in the dry mixture.
Stir in chocolate chips by hand.
Roll into balls. I would recommend small because they get very big. A large cherry sized ball is plenty.

Batter:

This batter can be used on any sweet you would like to deep fry such as Twinkies, Oreos, or Snickers
To get about 15 cookie dough balls covered this is the recipe:

3/4 cup of Bisquick or any pancake mix
3/4 cup of milk

It is really just using equal parts milk and pancake mix. The pancake mix doesn't taste like pancakes when you deep fry it.

Deep Frying:

The oil should be preheated to 350 or 300. All depending on how fast you want them to deep fry.
Roll the cookie dough balls into flour and then coat them with the pancake mix.
Toss the cookie dough balls into the oil and watch them fry. Allow them to fry until golden brown. This happens very fast so don't walk away from them.
Place on a plate and then allow to cool for 1-3 minutes then sprinkle on some powdered sugar.

Making Actual Cookies:

Preheat oven to 350
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until sides are golden brown. Or however done you want your cookies.
